Loukas Mistelis is a member of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies where he is Director of the School of International Arbitration. He teaches on the LLM programme and is the co-ordinator of the courses in International and Comparative Commercial Arbitration, International Trade and Investment Dispute Settlement, International Commercial Litigation and ADR.

Professor and Barrister/International Arbitrator. Primarily a practising lawyer and arbitrator. Julian Lew's research interest is international commercial arbitration. He has written extensively on many different aspects of international arbitration and trade law, and has authored and edited numerous books, and has written innumerable articles, on international arbitration.

Senior Lecturer in International Dispute Resolution

Stavros Brekoulakis studied law at Athens and London and obtained a first class LLB from Athens and his LLM from King's College London. He is also member of the Athens Bar having practiced in shipping law and dispute resolution.

Ms Norah Gallagher

Norah Gallagher is a specialist in the areas of international arbitration and public international law. She has acted in arbitrations under ICC, ICSID, LCIA as well as ad hoc arbitrations. She regularly advises on issues concerning arbitration agreements including defective or pathological clauses, bifurcated clauses and multiparty arrangements as well as all procedural aspects of international arbitration and enforcement of awards.

 

Dr Debbie De Girolamo

Dr De Girolamo is an expert in mediation, having previously practiced in litigation in Canada. She is also interested in legal systems and legal methodology. She is Honorary Secretary of the Academic Committee of the Civil Mediation Council and responsible for the LLM course in ADR.

Dr Joanna Gomula-Crawford

Joanna Gomula-Crawford has been associated for many years with the Polish Academy's Institute of Law Studies and has researched and taught in public international law, EU law and international economic law.

HH Humphrey Lloyd

HH Humphrey Lloyd QC

His Honour Humphrey Lloyd QC has been conducting courses at Queen Mary on International Construction Contracts and Arbitration since 1986 and is a Visiting Professorial Fellow of the College. He was a judge of the Technology and Construction Court of the High Court of Justice from 1993-2005 and has now returned to practice as an arbitrator in international and domestic commercial disputes.

Donald Francis Donovan,

Donald Francis Donovan is a Partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York. He was recently identified as one of the ten leading international arbitration practitioners in the world by Chambers Global (2006). Donald Donovan is Vice-President of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), and a member of the Board of Directors of Human Rights First (until recently the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights).

Stefan Kröll is a lawyer in Cologne specialising in international commercial law and Habilitand at Cologne University. He holds a doctorate from Cologne University, an LLM from the University of London and is one of Germany’s National Correspondents for arbitration to UNCITRAL. He is author and editor of various books on arbitration including “Comparative International Commercial Arbitration” (jointly with Lew/Mistelis) and “Arbitration in Germany – The Model Law in Practice (jointly with Böckstiegel/Naciemiento).

Born in 1948 in Sao Paolo, he has a dual nationality (Swiss - Brazilian) and is a Partner of Levy Kaufmann-Kohler a boutique dispute resolution firm based in Geneva, Switzerland. He has obtained his license en droit from the University of Paris (1969) and then a DES from the same University (1971) before obtaining a license en droit from the University in Geneva (1972) and finally a doctorat en droit from the University of Paris (1983), He work focus on international law,commercial law, international arbitration and mediation.

Christopher Newmark is a partner in the boutique dispute resolution firm, Spenser Underhill Newmark LLP. He was previously a partner in the Dispute Resolution Department of Baker & Mckenzie in London where he was the chair of the firm's European Dispute Resolution Practice group. Chris' practice is focused on international commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

David M. Ong is a Reader in Law at the University of Essex, UK where he teaches International Law, including WTO Law, and Environmental Law. His main research interests are in the International Law of the Sea and International Environmental Law.

Audley Sheppard is a Partner in the International Commercial Arbitration and International Law Groups of Clifford Chance LLP in London. He was recently named in Practical Law Co's global list of "Which lawyer?'s top 20 arbitration specialists". Audley has LLB (Hons) and BCommerce from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and an LLM from the University of Cambridge, England.

Ali Yesilirmak holds an LLB from Dokuz Eylül University, an LLM from the University of Texas at Austin and a PhD from the University of London (Queen Mary). He is Adjunct Professor, Koç University School of Law (2006-), having previously been Adjunct and Assistant Professor at Yeditepe University School of Law (2005-2006, 2001-2004). He is in practice in Istanbul.
